I started my career as a musician like lots of others listening to songs and tunes from the old records. But it all started for me through a miming competition as a boy living in the North of England. After this I was hooked, I needed a guitar. But coming from a large family that wasn’t easy, so this was on hold till I got out of the Army when I was about twenty and bought my first 12 string guitar. Yes! 12 strings have to be better than 6!?!
After much time strumming in the kitchen, I found my first song as a songwriter. I don’t recall the melody, but it was definitely about lost love! Ten years later I was recording my first solo album, “Down to the Sea in Ships”, after many hours of playing in various bands. For the Album I collected stories from the wharves and literature. The title track received 18 mths airplay on ABC’s Australia All Over. I then had the bug for reseaching and recorded a 4 track album “Cities Services Boston” about the Illawarra area before going on to record my first Cd, “Waltzing the Green and Gold”. So on the road touring, recording radio programmes, reseaching and collecting more stories as we travelled Australia. The pull was coming to tour overseas so after recording the latest Cd, “The Meeting Place”, the tour was on. With three solo albums to my credit I was off and away, the full time singer/songwriter.
