  GUITAR TUNINGS

    Presentation
Discover the art of alternate tuning, with finger style guitar. Explore DADGAD, partial "D" tuning and "C" tuning CGCGCE. Re-explore the neck of your guitar, find a new way to play that old song. If you have heard any of the new Irish songs, then maybe you have heard that harp like guitar that is playing- It's probably in an alternate tuning!

    Who uses Alternate tunings?
Vince Brophy has been playing guitar for some years using alternate tunings for a number of his recordings. Influenced by the likes of Joni Mitchel and David Crosby in his early years and now by the likes of some of the worlds best exponents of the guitar, El McMeen, Al Petteway, Martin Simpson to name a few. There are many recordings now available both as tutors (listening and visual) and enjoyment. There are courses you can attend like "The Swannanoa Gathering" held each June to August in North Carolina, USA. So the bottom line is don't be on your own - get some professional help.

BREAKER MORANT & WILL OGILVIE WORKSHOPS

    Presentation
These bush poets and horsemen have left a legacy of poetry and verse that have inspired millions since their time. Both published in the Bush Bible-'The Bulletin', are both recognised in their own right and have provided the inspiration for workshops that Vince Brophy presents on each of their works.

    Harry Morant - 'The Breaker'
Known for his skill as a horsebreaker and expert horseman he has become part of the legacy of myth because of the circumstances surrounding his death. However before this time he was a prolific poet encouraged by Will Ogilvie to send his material to the Bulletin. Several books have been published with his poetry, with numerous others about the circumstances of his death. A sometimes romantic poet he was part of that club of bushmen who wrote about life in the outback; it's joys and hardships.
This workshop deals with his peotry both spoken and sung and breaks the myth surounding his death at the hands of a British firing squad.

For bookings either e-mail Vince or phone/fax on 03 97250255
    Duration: Approximately 1 hour.

    Will Ogilvie
Was a romantic bush poet who live in Australia for about 9 years. Will left a legacy of his bush poetry before going home to Scotland. He worked extensivley in Australia as drover and station manager. His poetry was published in the "Border Watch" Mt Gambier, and the "Bulletin". Will was a quiet man with an expert eye for good horse flesh, not a loud fellow, but his poetry spoke for him. He was a really good friend of R.M.Williams who published several books of his verse.
I have recorded a number of Wills poems on my album "The Meeting Place".
Will was one of a number of poets to live in the South East of South Australia, John Shaw Neilson, and Adam Lindsay Gordon were the others.

For bookings either e-mail Vince or phone/fax on 03 97250255
    Duration: Approximately 1 hour.
